Home merged into the contour of the landscape

CATEGORY
APPEARANCE
A unique residential home located on a slanted hillside built in a way that follows the contour of the landscape with the internal layout built around the environment.
In a conventional home, the layout is based on the pre-determined functions of each individual room. This thinking might decide things like the number of bedrooms or size of the living room.
However, for this project, the homeowners were in love with the location chosen for this unusually positioned home. This was an important reason behind basing the design around the contour of the landscape. The result is a comfortable living environment created in a position that allows them to overlook the nearby winery they own and manage.
Although, perhaps not always as obvious as in this project, all of Ryoji Iedokoro’s designs keep external factors and the surrounding environment in mind in order to create a physically and emotionally comfortable living space for homeowners.
