Reflections in a “symbolic tree”

When building a new home, it’s customary to sometimes symbolically plant a tree in the garden or yard of the new home. The mailbox and intercom, in the shape of a cartoon-like tree you might expect to see in a Japanese anime instead of in front of this home, acts as a kind of symbolic tree for the home.
The metallic mirror material in this tree-like mailbox means that people approaching are greeted by their own reflection every time they come back home. The use of a mirror-like material in the design becomes more significant when you realize that this house is home to not one by two separate households.
In many shared houses it can be hard to feel as if you’re in a home of your own. The design, which causes residents to see their own reflection when coming in, acts as a reminder that they’re returning home, to their own living space. Despite being a shared house, this stylistic feature helps to emphasize the individuality of the different living spaces for the two households on a psychological level, leading to a unique experience for the residents.
